Moong Dal Recipe| South Indian Moong dal dry fry 


The Moong dal recipe I am going to teach you today, is a simple dry dish you can make in 5 minutes. This is a south Indian style dish wherein we will cook the moong dal, fry it with dry red chilli and mustard seeds and urad daal.  

This recipe is something that you can have for a quick snack or to complement your lunch. 

Let me show you how to prepare this recipe. 

Moong dal recipe – Preparation Steps

1. Take ½ cup of moong daal and wash it well. In a pressure cooker pour 2 glasses of water and cook the daal for 2-3 whistles. 


2. Check if the daal is cooked. If so, heat oil in a pan.

3. To this add ½ tbsp. mustard seeds, ½ tbsp. of urad daal, 2 dry red chilies, 1 green chilly, and 3-4 curry leaves.


4. Add the cooked daal into the pan and stir it well. Pour 1-2 tbsp of coconut oil and ¼ tbsp. of hinge on top the mix and stir well.

5. Garnish with some curry leaves and switch off the flame. Your moong dal fry is ready. 


Moong Dal Recipe Notes: 

Moong dal recipe tastes better when you add fresh coconut gratings on top of it while frying. 

It is an excellent dish to have with rice porridge.

Ensure that the moong dal doesn’t gets over cooked. It is better to keep it to 2-3 whistles in the cooker.
